I just bought a new computer (HP 4200+ AMD Athlon 64 bit x2 dual core Processor / 1 gig of ram/ 320 GB hard drive). I downloaded Avast 4.7 on it successfully, so I tryed a boot scan and after 30 mins or so the computer goes into sleep mode and never comes out no matter how long I let it run. Each time I have to cut the power to it to get it back running. I even disabled the Nortons anti-virus that comes on the computer. Could someone please tell me what I’m doing wrong.
Disabling Norton just won’t cut the mustard. Having two resident scanners installed is not recommended as rather than provide twice the protection it can cause conflicts that could leave you more vulnerable.
You need to uninstall Norton and even then there might be remnants of Norton left behind, it is notorious for that.
The presence of NAV. It’s impossible to live with avast (or any other antivirus).
Disable is not enough. It never is. As David said.
ok thanks, I’ll try that.
Please, don’t forget to post the results. Feel free to come back and ask for any help you need.
Well I tryed everything you said but it’s still doing the same thing.
Ok try this.
1 Download the current version of avast( if you don’t already have one)
2 download the removal utility from here
http://avast.com/eng/avast-uninstall-utility.html
3 uninstall avast via control panel
4 reboot
5 run the uninstall utility
6 reboot
7 reinstall avast
Don’t forget to update.
Woot woot woot I figured it out…
I simply placed the computer’s (sleep mode) on never and tryed the scan… ;D :o ;D
Thanks for the help guys.
Thanks for posting back. Glad you got it.
Shouldn’t Windows detect the activity of the scanner and avoid hibernation?
Can anybody post a technical info about this? Thanks.
