hello all, i was alerted to a virus when i tried running a music file. i quickly hit to delete it button and thought everything was ok. i shut my pc down for about 8 hours + and when i restarted it, the web browsers was slow. thinking that the virus might have affected my pc i attempted to run a virus scan. it starts up ( asks for permission to continue since i have a vista ) and say wait. please. testing operating memory and startup items. then after 30sec to a min its says memory scan complete. and starts up user interface. (i haven’t ran it in a few since this is a new pc, about 3 moths old but didn’t it before like run through the memory’s that it was scaning? ) at the interface i set the files i want scanned and level of the scan and start the scan. but after 26 sec it goes to the end of the scan. it shows the numbers of files scanned 0/0; run-time 00:00:26; number of infected files: 0 ; and total size of the scanned files 0.0 B … no files are ever scanned… My main question is, could this be due to a virus infecting my pc or just a technical issue? and if it is a virus, what program can i use to find and remove it?

You did NOT mention IF you have any antiSPYWARE/antiTROJAN program(s) ?
IF not, it is recommended to use the FREE Malwarebytes’ Anti-Malware from
www.malwarebytes.org/mbam.php AND/OR the FREE Version of
“SUPERAntiSpyware” from www.superantispyware.com .
no i dont, i just have avast installed. i didnt think i was going to need one so soon… ty btw for the site, ill try them
ty Spiritsongs for your help, i managed to delete 60 tracker cookies and a low but still annoying malware, avast is once again running as it should and am currently running one last scan with it to make sure everything is good.
