Scaning Time too long

Hi,

i am using Avast5 Free. So far…so good. The only thing is that a complete Scan of my System takes over 2-3 Hours is it normal? My System: Windows Vista Home Premium 64 Bit, 4 GB DDR2, Quad Core Intel (4x2.5 GHz), nforce 6 chipset. 500 GB WD HDD Sata2, geforce 130 1,5 GB RAM.

Hello,
it depends, how full is you HDD (how many data is scanned), what type of data is there – programs (exe, dll) or music/video, what type of scan – packers enabled? Full scan with no file type recognition? Whole files? I thing that there were made some changes in default settings in v5.

I won’t worry. Depends on your files, your system specifications, programs running…

I have around at 20 GB Files without zip Packers etc. and without video/audio files only those files that are come as default on windows vista. I disabled PUP but the scan takes 2 Hours so far. The quickscan with PUP enabled 5 Minutes lol.

Hi

Full Scan On My Laptop = 1 hour 15 minutes … 69.22 GB - Scanned!

Full Scan On My Desktop = 1 hour 24 minutes … 87.22 GB - Scanned!

You Said…

1,5 GB RAM

Don’t Know! :-\ But could possibly be the difference ???

My Laptop = 4 GB RAM
My Desktop = 3 GB RAM

On my Desktop are 4 GB DDR2 Ram and my Graphics Card have 1,5 GB RAM ^^

Hi

Sorry! … Need New Glasses :-[

Don’t Know Then ???
Perhaps it’s not How Much it’s scanning … But more about What it’s scanning :-\

Hally

Mine is 2 hours,

But my computer is 5 1/2 years old. Although it runs very well. If the scan completes and does its job I wouldn’t worry about it. This all depends on the age of your system, the size of the hard drive, and what it finds. I presume that scan times, especially in Full Scan modes will vary considerably from user to user.

Just Thought Of Something!

Do you carry on using your computer while you’re running a scan?
