Greetings. I have a CD that contains documents from my last computer which was infected with a virus. Can avast scan that disc for viruses or PUPs if I put it into the CD drive of my new computer BEFORE I download the contents???
If so, what steps will I need to take to do this?

Yes it can scan CDs, using the Select folder to scan Or Removable media scan.
However, I don’t know if it would be able to remove any infected file from the CD, depends I guess on if it is read write media, etc. But at the very least it should be able to produce a list of detections at the end of the scan.
