scanning

??? I just installed avast 4 and I don’t see where it is scanning. Does it not appear on screen like AVG did? If I have to set the time of scanning manually where do I go to do this?

If you want to see what avast is doing, go to the Stardard Shield provider settings. Choose the option ‘Show detailed information on performed action’ into the Advanced page… You will see a box at the botton of the screen telling you what it is doing…
Hope this help.

I haven’t been using avast for long enough to know its interface perfectly. But I had been using AVG for quite some time before switching. The avast program doesn’t seem to do full system scans on a scheduled basis like AVG. Instead, it is a resident scanner - scanning files as your system tries to access them.

To get some of the “scheduled scan” capability that AVG has, I have begun to use the Avast Screen Saver, which does a system scan when your computer is not in use. One of the wishlist items I’ve suggested is adding the results of this screen saver scan to the main console, so you get a feel for when the screen saver system scan was last completed.

To get the AVG capability and much more, try the avast! Pro version.
avast! has tons of features and configurations more than AVG (which I already used too and has a good engine).

I tired to use Avast and still want to but had to put back avg as I do not understand a darn thing. Like even here where is the button I start a threadon some sort of Board.
I also tried to do thorough scanning and it just would not do it and then it said it could not remove a virus I had from one file which I put in the chest which I simply do no understand really what that was but it said I was virus free then.
Also do you scan you hard drive (probably the wrong term for avast) every morning and why did it take hours to scan when my avg takes about 9 minutes and when I reinstalled AVG and uninstalled Avast–updated it and ran the scanner and it said I had no virus after scanning and updating. I can see you are more thourough but if I cannot opearate it which frustrates me I had to put back avg. It also said I need to do other things but right now I am so overwhelmed I just did not know what to do and needed some virus protection to even ask here so today it is AVG and I sure failed. I kept my liscense number in hopes—I am an elder new computer user and you are talking chinese to me even in these boards. Shirley :-\

Shirley, welcome to the forums!
I, too, am a “mature” user  …and it took awhile for me to get Avast set up and understand how to work it! There were many people on this forum who went out of their way to assist me…and they will do the same for you.

You will find Avast! is easy to use and very, very good! Many of our “experts” will be along to guide you…

Trust me…Avast and its forums are wonderful. 8)

Don’t say the things in this way…
We are here to help you step by step if you need…
I’m trying :-\

You cannot sort the board, but you can search (use the button above of the screen): http://forum.avast.com/index.php?board=2;action=search

Did you select what to scan? Did you choose the hard disk, or floppy or a specific area to do scan? There are three buttons for each one of these options.

It could be a lot of things… Maybe even avast! caught a virus that AVG could not… What you do not understand in the Chest?

It depends on the sensitivity choosen… If you ask for a quick scan, avast! will be as fast than avg… But this is not important, the only thing you may be worried about is the virus not the time. In avast! you can use the screen saver module and run a scan while the screen saver is active, or you can run the scan while you are not using the computer…

Do you mean every morning or ‘every boot’ of your computer?

Note, avast! and AVG 6.0 (free) are not compatible. You cannot have both of them at the same time at the same computer. Did you do that or just uninstall one before installing the other…

Woh, it takes me 15 minutes to write this for you

nice work tech…

all the bros here owe you a salute!

shgoh…true! Technical works very hard for all of us, especially newbies who may not have much computer expertise!

I wonder how many of our newbies are from that recommendation of CloudEight changing their #1 from AVG to Avast?
maybe we should keep an eye out for them…
