Is this possible??? I would like to set up Avast to do a thorough scan every night while I sleep (I leave my comp on all the time). I can’t seem to find a setting to schedule automatic scanning, I’ve only found a setting for boot-time scan. I don’t want to have to manually run a virus scan every few days or weeks.

You can’t schedule in Home version. Only in Professional.

oh well… I have no use for the pro version, so I guess I’m screwed…
No… if you’re using the resident protection, why would you need to run on-demand scanning with that much frequency?
Tech did give you the link to perform a scheduled scan in the Home version.
I’ve been running a weekly scheduled scan in the home version for years using the method described.
As for the drawbacks described - it does require careful thought to use the exclusion list to speed up the scan but my weekly scan runs at just under 35 minutes.
