I am running Avast Hove 4.8 on a Gateway Laptop with Windows 7. I believe I have a worm that randomly causes a pop up “Your computer is infected… Click here for a scan”.
I have run full scans with updated versions of Avast, SuperAntispyware, MS Malware removal tool, and Spybot S&D. They all come back negative.
When I try to set up a Boot Scan on Avast, the selection on the drop down menu is grayed out so I cannot select it.
I am wondering if this is being caused by an infection, or is a problem with Avast.
Thanks very much! Great info.
I was unaware of the 64 bit issue, as I have only used Avast on 32 bit machines so far. I’ll try the Malewarebytes tonight.
The boot scan wont give you better detection, it has to do with better removal/cleaning
Avast Antivirus offers a “boot time” virus scan of your PC. This allows the antivirus engine to scan all of the files on your hard drive before any other programs load - useful in cases where you have an infection which cannot be cleaned because the “file is in use”
you can also use safe mode for better removal/cleaning
you can use
Thorough Scan. In this type of scan all files are scanned in their entirety, and checked for all infections listed in the database. This type of scan has the highest reliability, but takes much longer to run than a Quick or Normal scan.
