I’m sure I’ve probably overlooked the Help section looking for a schedule but, what I’m looking for is a schedule whereby I can have a weekly scan run at a specific day/time and I can’t find that. I’ve been doing a manual scan only. When I had NIS it was set up to run on Friday night at 7:00pm each week. Didn’t matter what I was doing at that time, it would still scan and I just minimized it to get it out of the way to do it’s thing. Does avast have this feature?
Only the Professional version.

Thanks for that info…maybe it would just be easier to get the Pro version.
I just checked out the Pro version and it looks interesting. Can I just download over the Home version I have or is it nedessary to uninstall and the install Pro. Also, I was reading about the Push Updates and was curious if it works with my email client, IncrediMail, as it made no mention of it or Outlook Express. IncrediMail is my default.
“The updates itself are controlled by the avast! resident e-mail providers (MS Outlook and Internet Mail).”
The Pro version offers more than just being able to schedule scans.

DavidR-yep, I had checked that out earlier and they’re some good things there to consider getting the Pro version for…which I probably will do. From some of the info I read, they want you to download it and use it for 60 days before buying it to try it out first. Then, decide to purchase afterwards. I was just curious if I could download it over what I have now, which is the Home version.
I think you could download the Pro trial version and try to install it (but I don’t know how it would react to seeing the home version), or if you would first have to uninstall the home version.
You are not forced to use it for 60 days before you register/pay for the product.
However, if you have decided that you do want to go Pro, then all you would have to do is Buy/register it and you would be sent a registration key. Then enter that into the relevant location in your existing Home Version (about avast, License Key… button) and if you happen to be on-line at the time it will be updated to the Pro version automatically.
Good adivce…think I’ll go for it. I wish I could stay logged in. I never log out and have checked the “Always stay logged in” box but if I go away somewhere else and come back I have to loggin again or, if it shows I’m logged in and I click on a certain forum, I have to loggin again…strange. This is happening elsewhere also. ???
I just downloaded the Pro Version and it seemed to work quite well with Home version still installed. However, I checked out Settings and don’t see anything about scheduling a scan time for a particular day/time. Where might I find that?
You need to switch to the Enhanced User Interface, rather than the Simple User Interface of the Home version.
That does make a difference! Thanks
I set it up for Friday’s at 7:00 to scan arount 4:00 this afternoor but at 7:00 it didn’t kick in. I was expecting to see a box pop up like Norton does, and show the scan progress. Never saw it.
If the schedule is correct, it’s working on background 8)
Open Enhanced Interface and go to Sessions… You’ll see one running
Remember, avast is fully automated and will run in background, no need for user interaction (if he/she wants this…) 8)
Guess I’ll have to wait until next Friday to check that as I only have it set for Friday’s at 7:00. I guess I’m still Norton oriented!! They spoiled me.
If you want to test, just schedule for next 5 minutes and wait…
You’ll notice that ashServ.exe will take a lot of RAM resources. Of course, there is a scanning in background.
Open Enhanced Interface to see it running… 8)
I’m going to try that. Right now, I’m trying to figure how I supposedly got the Nimda Worm. I ran a scan with ewido earlier and was told the Nimda was installed in Program files\Netmeeting\netmeeting.htm I believe it said. You have the option of cleaning which I clicked. I saved it on Notepad…it’s still in quarantine.
Scan result:
C:\Documents and Settings\xxxxxxxxxx\Cookies\xxxxxxxxxxr@bravenet[1].txt → Spyware.Tracking-Cookie → Cleaned with backup
C:\Program Files\NetMeeting\netmeet.htm → Worm.Nimda → Cleaned with backup
Why didn’t avast Pro find this?
