Scheduling a Scan

I switched from AVG (paid version) to Avast only to find there is no way to schedule a scan. First anti-virus software I’ve ever used that doesn’t allow this. I thought I had read somewhere that the pro version allowed this so I bought the program. If there’s a way to schedule a scan it sure is hidden because I’ve been trying for days to find it. Does anyone know if this software allows this option. It seems pretty much useless if it doesn’t. Thanks for any input and/or help.

Welcome to the forums.

you “can” schedule a scan with the free version with a little effort: http://forum.avast.com/index.php?board=2;action=display;threadid=3796

If you have the PROFESSIONAL edition, start avast! in enhanced interface, in left pane click on SCHEDULER. Then click on Scheduler in tool bar, from the menu choose “create event” and specify the scan type, period and so on as you wish.

You don’t really need to do that in a Resident scanner, it is much lessened although I do an on-demand weekly scan. You can also set avast to run a scan when the screen saver is running, so it would do a rolling scan continuing from where it left off.

The pro version does allow scheduling of scans, but you have to be using the Enhanced User Interface to set it up, creating a task and setting the required options. Sorry I can’t be any practical help in that regard as I use the Home version.

See the avast help file, Enhanced User Interface, Enhanced User Interface Main Menu section, see image extract.

Thanks for the help guys. I knew nothing about enhanced interface. That did the trick.

No problem, glad I could help.
