Today I set up the Avast screensaver, it scanned my c:-disk, and after starting to scan the d-disk it stopped after a while with a message cannot initialize the scanner. If I stop the screensaver and wait 5 minutes for it to start, it continues where it stopped and after exactly 1581 files, it stops again with the same message.
It is very hard to tell, it is in the uninstall directory of Windows XP SP2, the path is:
D:\Windows$ntservicepackuninstall$\
the last file I see is xpob2res.dll, but it works very fast and it might as well be another one. But if I check the files in the folder, it looks like it is almost the last one. Try again…
Ok, I saw zipfldr.dll now, so it really is the last one. I scanned the complete folder, without any problem. What could be the next step?
So, are you saying that the first scan of your disk finishes correctly, and when the screensaver is about to loop again (do you have the “Loop scanning” option set?), it terminates with the “cannot initialize the scanner” message?
Or, am I wrong?
Now you point me to something :o. It IS the end of the scan of the d: disk, I don’t have a loop, but I have a E:-disk that is not formatted. I was always too lazy to remove this disk, but I understand exactly what is happening. The screen-saver wants to scan this e:-disk, but since it is not formatted… I removed the disk and the screensaver runs and tells me that it finishes.
Thanks for letting us know.
Well, I understand that the screensaver gives some error on the unformatted partition, but I’d say it shouldn’t be “cannot initialize the scanner” - it doesn’t give much sense.
