When I click the dialog box thet ““says don’t show this window next time”” I get an error that says"" an error has occured in the script on this page"" . I have used the search engine and found people having the same issues that were fixed by a hoitfix but I cant use that hotfix because it is older than the version I already have. Anyone know how to fix this so I get the simple user interface from coming up when I open Avast?
BTW I am running XP Pro with Service pack 2 and I disabled all blockers to see if that would solve it but it did not.
never mind I fixed by deleting the help file .
That hasn’t fixed it but masked the problem and it may return if an update or repair replaces.
Were you talking about an window with 4 or 5 common help hints with a tick box at the bottom ?
If so you can edit the “C:\Program Files\Alwil Software\Avast4\DATA\avast4.ini” file using notepad or your favourite text editor. Find the [Simple] section and if the ShowHelpCheckList entry is there change the value to ShowHelpCheckList=1, if that line isn’t there, create a new line under [Simple] and add the ShowHelpCheckList=1 line, save and exit the avast4.ini file. That should stop the pop-up when you start the Simple User Interface.
[Simple]
ShowHelpCheckList=1
No problem, welcome to the forums.
Stick around and browse the forums, especially the sticky topics at the top of each of the forums, not to mention the avast help file. They provide a wealth of information to help you get the best from avast.
Don’t forget to restore the help file or, if you lost it, repair your avast installation 8)
I run a manual update and it apears to of restored it self, but the simple user interface is working great and not popping up anymore .
BTW I have it turned on automatic updates and I was wondering how often it updates itself and if it will notify me when it updates?
Also I guess Ishould introduce myself, I am from Ky and I am currently in my last year of college with a major in Information Technology and I must say Avast is a total step up from the McAfee resource hog that I have been using for years. Also the program architecture in itself is work of art and after trialing it I can foresee recomending the home and pro edition to more people.
Simly put, avast will check for updates right after you start your computer. By default, it will check every 4 hours afterwards. Once you reboot, the cycle will start again.
Yes, if you have the check box for (right click the “a” icon, click program setting, update basics, details) “show sliding box after automatic update” checked
