Search page disappeared?!

I can’t access the ‘Search page’ right clicking a folder into Windows Explorer…
If I use the Toolbar button it works…
I’m sure I deleted a ‘false alarm’ of a hijacker or spyware with SpyBot, Adware or any Registry Cleaner…
I try to found a backup but, maybe, it was some days ago and I can’t go back right now…

Does anybody knows how to get rid of this? (XP SP1+)

P.S. I notice this is my 5000th post 8)

Technical,
Congrats. You sure are making it hard for me… ;D

Well, depends how long we survive here
Bob, do you have any suggestion about this trouble? Thanks.

See if tweakui can repair it.

What do you mean?
I have TweakUI but which option will change that behavior? ::slight_smile:
Thanks for your time Artras.

I thought tweakui had a option to repair the right click menu, but I just checked and it hasn’t :-[ Must be confusing it with another util I have here somewhere. Will look around here, if I find it I’ll sure will let you know. I know it is a registry entry that has to be changed, but really can’t remember which one :-\ It was somthing simulair like this

Well, you give me some ideas… I’ll check too. Thanks for help.

Hi Technical
I hope this helps.
Get FreshUI and follow the directions on the picture. FreshUI needs to be registered just like Avast! It’s free for personal use.

No, this does not help… :‘(
I have the button on the toolbar but I cannot access the search function by the context menu. All itens are selected :’(

Try disabeling (uncheck) the second button (enable default context menu)
Now reboot.
Then go right back and enable the second button (check it)
Reboot again and see if it restores the settings.

I’ll try it and let you know…

Does anybody else have a suggestion? ::slight_smile:

The only thing I can see is that when you use the search icon, it uses the existing windows explorer window, if you use the right click menu search… it calls the search function and opens it in a different window.

I know when I tried to replicate what you said (using context menu), I thought I had the same problem as you as it did take a while before the new window opened.

Perhaps that path (linked to the context menu) is not finding the search function and not reporting an error.

Perhaps a check of the event viewer logs (after an attempt) and see if an error is being recorded, it might give a clue?

Do you know what file should be addressed? Thanks.

Sorry Technical, I wasn’t able to find that out. I tried a search… for anything with search in the filename, clutching at straws.

I don’t know if you might find an answer at one of the Microsoft MVPs websites or forums Doug Knox’s MVP Site would be a good place to start, it has links to other MVP sites.

Edit another useful site is James A. Eshelman’s website.

David, thanks, I’ll check the links.
Bob, disabling, boot and enabling the default context menu do not work

Sorry Technical,
I’m still looking.

I’m waiting for some suggestions… :-[
Can’t anybody from Alwil make one? ::slight_smile:

For any one using FreshUI, a new version has just been released.
What’s new: hidden options for Start Menu and Windows Security section. Just install it over the old version you have.
You can download Version 7.20 HERE.

I got the new version, Bob … thanks!
