Anyone using this? Is it necessary to leave this running in the background? Is it worth having on my computer? It did find some “end of life” software as well as some unpatched software. Also, took me from 90% to 100% Secunia System Score. Would like to hear opinions on this. Thanks.
It does not work with IE9. I have Secunia PSI v1.9.02 on Windows 7 and am running it on my XP Pro system but I only use it once per week there.
I’m perfectly happy with the online scanner they supply.
You have to remember to run it
If you run the Secunia PSI or CSI - then you’re already covered
I’m still using the release version, PSI 1.5.0.2. It’s not necessary to leave it running in the background, so I unchecked Start the Secunia PSI on boot. I fire it up about once a week and do a manual scan.
I also do an on-demand scan weekly and disable it from start-up.
Me too - and almost every time it tells me that Adobe Flash Player and Reader are insecure,
with no solution available. Is this really anything to worry about - and if it is, is there an
alternative to Adobe flash player and Reader that runs in Firefox and IE8? Thanks
Make sure you Uninstall Flash Player:

Make sure all browsers are closed and PSI as well
Important! If any applications are using Flash Player when you run the uninstaller, uninstall may complete without deleting all the necessary files. If you accidentally left any applications open, close all applications and run the uninstaller again. Applications that use Flash Player include web browsers such as Internet Explorer, instant messaging clients such as AOL Instant Messenger, stand-alone SWF applications (.swf files), and projectors (.exe files that play Flash content).
Current is version 10,1,85,3

I’m using it and have no problem, it has given me a 100% score, took a while to get 100% because needed to update my Adobe Master Collection CS4, though, my browsing is yet insecure, because of Adobe Products.
I just cannot understand one things and it’s that why it has flagged my browsing insecure because of ‘Winamp’ too, I’ve not installed their addon or winamp detection…
Me too and I’m using it and have no problem as well, it has given me a 100% score as well and the only two things keep saying my browsing insecure is IE8 and the latest version of Firefox v3.6.12 which I don’t understand why unless Secunia is being a pain in the A## ;D
As long as you never view untrusted Flash or PDF content, you have little to worry about.
You can disable the Flash plugin in Firefox through Tools > Addons > Plugins. If I recall correctly, many of the youtube videos can be viewed using an alternative – HTML5, I think. There are several alternative PDF readers being touted in this forum. Do a search. I can’t vouch for their lack of vulnerabilities, but Adobe is the high profile target that most of the bad guys go after.
That said, I use the NoScript extension in Firefox. Be default, NoScript blocks Flash and PDF from anywhere but trusted sites.
Read the fine print. Firefox 3.6.12 isn’t insecure.

The insecurity reported is caused by one or more of the installed plugins.
I have no problems with it auto-booting at W7 startup
W7 home premium

Secunia PSI 2.0 beta
IE9
AIS 5.1X Beta
What I did find is that is says that Avast beta is a security threat.
Therefore I would strongly suggest
- Tuning off the Secunia auto-updates
- Under Settings is Secunia in the Exclude section exclude C:\Program Files\Alwil Software\
Avast will no longer be listed as a security threat.
I really like both programs.
The Secure Browsing feature in Secunia PSI helped identify that my new computer came with IE8 and not IE9 beta, which actually make sense. As a result in the Secure Browsing section it Idenified IE8 as a security issue, which we know it is anyway. So I just downloaded and installed IE9 beta on my new computer and Secunia PSI now has removed IE as a threat under Secure Browsing.
So I just downloaded and installed IE9 beta on my new computer and Secunia PSI now has removed IE as a threat under Secure Browsing. Now if you can figure out how to update your PROFILE I would feel better.
Secunia PSI 2.0 beta does not run on my Windows 7 system as it has MAJOR problems.
Now if you could only figure out how to quote and update your PROFILE.
