The file downloaded, started ok, but hangs on the Starting screen and then just stops. No message given. Windows 10. the browser was operating fine until it couldn’t update, or even open, so I uninstalled, and now it won’t install the new one.
I have tried to update 7 times now with no luck. I went to uninstall the app and can’t do that either. Rebooted, cleared cache, cookie, shredded deleted files. Has happened before and Avast tech support helped then. Tried the same thing as them and nothing.

could you please try going to the settings menu, then to the About Page? Or it hangs immediately on browser start and no longer recovers from the hanged state?

Nope, tried those, the uninstall exe gave the same result. It hangs on the “starting” screen and then just stops. I have hard restarted, soft restarted, tried it with anti-virus disabled, nothing gets beyond that starting screen/pop-up. Is there a way to download a previous version before the latest update? as that seems to be the root cause of all this. Thanks

please go to C:/Program Files/Avast Software or C/Program Files x86/Avast Software and delete the Browser folder if it’s there. Then download this installer https://download.securebrowser.com/ab/avast_secure_browser_setup.exe and try running it with administrator rights.

Thank you, sorry there were no Browser folders in either. When I tried to download from your link the download kept dropping, citing internet connection, yet I have a very strong and consistent connection. Running the Avast security suite if that helps?
Also, I ran previous (last week) downloads as administrator with no change, it just stops.
