I have a Samsung A53 with Android 14 and all the current fixes. I am having problems connecting it to Android Auto (which I need for Google Maps and other Google apps) on my VW Golf with the VPN active.
The connection is through Bluetooth, and other aspects of the connection are working correctly, such as the telephone.
If I try to start the connection with the VPN connected, I get an error message - Communication error 21 (see the attached screenshot for details). If I press the ‘Connect’ button and disconnect the VPN, I can connect properly to the car. This is not satisfactory, as I then have to remember to restart the VPN once I leave the car.
I cannot find any settings applicable to Bluetooth or to any specific Android apps within the Secureline App.
So, how can I get a clean connection without disabling the VPN manually?

Hi Paul, 1 year later and I have the same issue on a Samsung Fold 6 and a VW Virtus and a VW TCross… It seems something generic - did you find any solutions or workarounds? Thanks!
Unfortunately, not really. There was a suggestion from Avast on the Google Play site ‘to enable Location permission and set it to “Allow all the time”’, but I had already set them in that manner. They also suggested using split tunnelling, but that seems to be a setting include the app in the VPN, not exclude it.
So the problem is still present and I am still having to check whether the Secure Line App has over-ridden my auto settings, and switched the VPN on, before I connect Android Auto in the car.
