Security message saying avast Free AV is offline, but Avast saying Secured

Hi! just a 10 minutes or so ago I updated avast Free antivirus, from ver 5.??? (don’t remember verion)
to Ver 6.0.1000

after restart (on request by avast)and installing avast! WebRep, (recomended by avast! during install)

the Windows Security Center, “Malware protection” section ,Alerted that avast! is turned off!?, though avast is updated and i can scan with it,
(No threats found , by the way), looked in Security Center and clicked on “Activate now” , as i am admin, just clicked to confirm, nothing happens, though i think on first try i did this ,it stated that ver 5 wasn’t active)
but in the same section 1 step below: it stated that “Both Windows Defender and avast! Antivirus is activated”

i checked this forum, that provided support for Home Edition, but did the same step, like go to add/remove and repaired avast!, but still the wee red (x)shield “Security message” is still there/here, should i uninstall and reinstall? ???

Thanks for the help!

You can either wait for the next Avast update to see if this fixes your problem, or try an Avast Repair:

  • Go to Control Panel > Add/Remove programs > Avast Antivirus.
  • Scroll down and choose Repair function in the pop-up window.
  • Reboot.

If neither of these fix your problem, then I suggest doing an Avast uninstall, using the new Avast uninstaller tool and a clean install:

  1. Save a copy of Avast 6.0.1000 and save it to your HDD:
    Free: http://files.avast.com/files/avast6f...up_av_free.exe
  2. Download the Avast Uninstall Utility http://files.avast.com/files/eng/aswclear6.exe and save it to your HDD (it has uninstall tools for all Avast versions and products).
  3. Disconnect from the Internet at this time.
  4. Go to Control Panel and uninstall Avast through Add/Remove Programs if possible and reboot.
  5. If Step 4 fails, boot into Safe Mode (hit F8 repeatedly) and run the Avast Uninstall Tool. Uninstall all previous versions and products you had on your machine at this time.
  6. Reboot.
  7. Install the newest version of Avast and reboot.
  8. Get Internet access and register your copy or add the license key for Free, Pro, or AIS.
    Free – http://www.avast.com/registration-free-antivirus.php
  9. Update the Avast definitions.

Let us know if this fixes your problems. Thank you.

OK! I Restarted my computer, and the red Security message has dissapeared, I went to Control Panel/Security

and that was also OK! avast! Antivirus is ON, and updated, so if this problem returns I will ask for help,
for now, Thanks for the help!
