Select areas to scan

How do I select areas to scan? I have the Avast 4.8 Simple User Interface open which says ‘Select areas to scan’ but I don’t see anywhere to access so that I can scan.
I have the Virus - Win32:Adspy-CM[Trj] (which may not be associated with the massage blow)and the following message which has infected all of my Internet Explorer messages that I send.

I am trying to clear this message but with no success. Avast hasn’t detected it.Any help on offer willbe welcome. Many thanks. PeterR

Have you tried MBAM http://filehippo.com/download_malwarebytes_anti_malware/ update and run quick scan, click "remove selected" to quarantine anything found and restart

When you click on the Folder Selection icon, you should have a window pop-up, see image.

This is where you select the Driver, Partitions or Folder to scan, do you see that window pop-up ?

Can you explain exactly what you have done to get to the point od selecting areas as I’m not sure where it is that you are.
