Serious .dll problem!!!

OK work with me here it’s a little complicated:
I have windows xp service pack 2, nod antivirus, windows firewall, microsoft antispyware, msn turned on all the time and here’s the problem:
I heard about avast being the best antivirus program out there so I came here to official site and downloaded home free edition… installation was a little too quick… but i didn’t get any error messages… however, no icons were made in the end of the installation… so I had to go to the path where it installed it and ran program and I got this error message:
“This application has failed to start because aswCmnOS.dll was not found. Re-installing the application may fix this problem.”
so I did what it told me , I downloaded uninstall program from their site, uninstalled avast, reinstalled it again… problem was not fixed… so I reinstalled it over the current version… still no success… I just don’t have that file aswCmnOS.dll anywhere on disk, and I downloaded setupeng.exe from their official site and send it to couple of friends and they had no problem installing it… this is a major issue here… a huge bug… somebody ought to take a look…

here where the problem occurs

First you need to completely uninstall NOD AV cos 2 AV’s ain’t gonna work I would suggest you uninstall Avast first then ensure that all of the other AV is removed then reboot and then reinstall avast. Could you come back with your OS and firewall setup after you have done this and let us know how it goes

I seriously doubt that nod could be guilty for this… since lots of my friends have norton , avg and avast installed all at once… I’m not saying it’s good or there is no harm, but they could installed whole avast and use it… I can’t even install it… it’s a well known fact that 2 antivirus programs together may cause problems, but I don’t think that’s a reason why there’s an error during installation

Could you have had a corrupt download. The dll you referenced is valid
I did a search at microsft but couldn’t find a decent answer allthough most did reference an OLE problem… Methinks you need a expert which I am not. Hang on though someone is sure to come soon

Hi,

do you have the AV-Monitor/Background-Scanner of NOD32 active/installed ?
if you do, then you MUST! install avast without any background-Shields/“Providers”, otherwise worse problems can appear and further discussion here is pointless

make sure that you do the installation as Admin, better even as the real ADMINISTRATOR in SafeMode (F8-Boot)
(remove any traces of previous avast-installs first & reboot)

if you don’t succeed, then please post here a hijackthis-Log for diagnosis,
and do an onlinescan, too, e.g. with Trend & RAV

Links/Info in “VirusRemoval” below in my sig, or board-search
