Serious problems after loading new version

I really do like Avast! I’ve been using it since about New Year’s and it’s been wonderful. For quite a while it would tell me there was a new version but it wouldn’t install on my machine.

Now it will install but it’s been a disaster. In fact I’m just recovering from the third clean install of Windows XP Home this week!!

When the new installation was complete and I got the extremely long registration code into it, my machine slowed down to a whole lot less than a crawl. Glacial is the only possible word but you must darn near take it literally!

Is this a known issue and is there a solution?

GreyKate, it’s really a pity but what’s going on…
The new version works smothly for all of us.
Did you install any other antivirus in your system?
Are you using a firewall?
The Registration code cannot ‘freeze’ avast or make the system slow… :
