It’s possible that you cannot access system registry. Run regedit and go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Services and under it try to create new key “TestService”. This is the same action that avast setup checks and fails.
how do i know for certain. i am logged on as the computer administrator
configured to have full access under the user accounts setup.
i cannot reinstall nav2002 because navapsc couldn’t create service nor can i install avg because it is missing a setup file and an online symantec virus scan has not detected any viruses.
the problem was that i was using DiamondCS Process Guard http://www.diamondcs.com.au/processguard/
and if you set all the options to yes, you will be unable to ever install any driver or application that uses the registry until you unload the process protector.
i have subsequently reinstalled Nav2002 without any problem.
