Setting Help

::slight_smile: I hate to ask such a stupid question but this is driving me nut. I’m new to Avast and still trying to understand it.

Can my Avast Program be set to notify me of any problems AT THE END of the scan??
Instead of coming to a complete halt where it is in the event something sets it off.

I’d like to run my scan at night after I leave the computer but with Avast, I have to be available to tell it what I want done with the file.

Is there a setting I’m missing, I’ve looked and looked and can’t seem to find anything that will let me set it to correct any problems AFTER the scan.

Thank YOU to anyone taking the time to help me, it would be greatly appreciated.

Jenn

I am using: Avast Home Edition 4.8, FV 081217-0
Windows XP, SP2
FireFox Browser mostly, sometimes IE
Windows FireWall, Linksys Wireless Router, AdBlock within the FireFox Browser and SpySweeper

Hi Jenn,

No setting for this in the ‘FREE’ version. You need to have the pro or paid version for that option. Sorry.

These automated options are only available in the Pro version. This is a limitation of the Home (free) version that it has interactive input requirement, there have to be differences in the Home/Pro version and this is one of them, the programmers have to eat ;D

In the Home version you can check the option “Don’t show this window again” when the first virus warning appears, select the “No action” button. This way, no action will be taken and you will given the results at the end of the scan (and you can perform actions from there). Over time this will become less of an issue, as the resident, on-access scanners are designed to intercept infection before it gets into your system.

  • There was one suggestion to place something like the eicar virus test file at the start of the first drive to be scanned in a file like ~a-eicar.com that should soon be detected and you can do the option “Don’t show this window again” when the first virus warning appears, select the “No action” button. So you should have a list of files waiting your action.

Thank YOU so much for your information, I appreciate your time.

Thank YOU so much David for the EXCELLENT tips :-*, I believe this will resolve my problem.

Nothing like jumping out of bed in the dark when that VIRUS WARNING goes off, with the dogs
barking, and you trying to figure out where you are, just to run to the computer and see what’s
up. ;D

I had never paid ANY attention to the No Action button displayed on the Virus Alert window … ::slight_smile:
Sometimes I wonder about me. You can’t believe how long I read through help instructions.

Anyway, I certainly do appreciate YOUR TIME and HELP.

Have a GREAT DAY ~!!

Jenn

No problem, glad I could help.
