Setting up file transfer scan, what is the .exe that scan files in avast?

Hello,

I am setting up avast to scan incoming files in Windows Live Messenger.

I am using Windows Live Messenger and in the tools>options>file transfer, there is an option “Scan files for viruses using:” and it let me choose the location of the scanner.

I clicked the browse button and navigated to C:\Program Files\Alwil Software\Avast4\

There are a lot of .exe files there to choose from, may I know what is the correct one to use?

Thanks

It’s C:\Program Files\Alwil Software\Avast4\ashQuick.exe.

Thanks. It worked. ;D

I searched first and this was second on the results list.

BTW, My first post.

Welcome to the forums.

So your still using avast 4.8 then not 5.0 ?

I didn’t realize 5.0 was out.
I will download it.
Will I have to use a different exe name for live messenger transfer scanning?
I don’t want to install the microsucker one.

No, but the location is slightly different C:\Program Files\Alwil Software\Avast5\ashQuick.exe.

I believe this is considered a command line scan which is not available in Avast 5 Free. Or, does the IM Shield make this possible?

I don’t know if this is specifically excluded in the free versions, ashQuick.exe is/was available in 4.8 Home so I would say that it wasn’t considered a command line scan in the same way as the Pro version.

We will need confirmation one way or the other from Alwil.

I just tried it in my download manager ‘Orbit Downloader’ and it didn’t work, so I don’t know if that is a general failure or as you suggest a restriction in the avast! 5.0 free antivirus.
