sirefef/Win32:downloader-pku/Win32:malware gen

I’ve got this mess that people have been having trouble with.

Avast keeps reporting the random named trojan horse alerts with win32:downloader/malware gen.
Adobe flash player keeps trying to force update and im worried it might be fake.
Services.exe is using up 40% CPU
lots of services like windows firewall are completely nonfunctional.

I had this same virus before and it took me forever to get off. I think I got it back when i torrented an ebook. After that the adobe flash player downloads started popping up for no reason.

Help is greatly appreciated.

Logs are attached

Hi,

Let me look these over.

Hi,

WARNINGUnfortunately one or more of the infections I have identified are Backdoor Trojans, IRCBots or other Malware capable of stealing very important information. You need to stop using all Internet Banking sites, change passwords to all sites with sensitive information from a clean computer and phone your bank to inform them that you may be a victim of identify theft. More often than not, we advise users that a full reinstallation of their Operating System is the only way to ensure that their computer will ever be 100% clean again.

Unfortunately I have found what is known as the ZeroAccess rootkit on your system. It is an especially nasty infection that can take quite some time to clean as well as may have damaged your system files itself. As a warning, during the cleaning (if you choose to do so) you may lose internet access with this computer and in the end we may need to reinstall the operating system anyway depending on the extent of the infection.

If you would like to format and reinstall your Operating System please let me know and we can assist you with that.

If you would like to continue with the cleaning, please continue with the following instructions and I will be more than happy to help.

Please download and run ERUNT (Emergency Recovery Utility NT). This program allows you to keep a complete backup of your registry and restore it when needed. The standard registry backup options that come with Windows back up most of the registry but not all of it. ERUNT however creates a complete backup set, including the Security hive and user related sections. ERUNT is easy to use and since it creates a full backup, there are no options or choices other than to select the location of the backup files. The backup set includes a small executable that will launch the registry restore if needed. **Remember if you are using Windows Vista as your operating system right-click the executable and Run as Administrator.

If you are running Malwarebytes 1.6 or better, please disable it for the duration of this run.

To disable Malwarebytes

[*]Open the scanner and select the Protection tab
[*]Remove the tick from “Start Protection Module with Windows” as seen below

http://i1224.photobucket.com/albums/ee380/jeffce74/MBAM16orgreater.jpg

Once complete continue with the instructions…

Run OTL.exe

[*]Copy/paste the following text written inside of the code box into the Custom Scans/Fixes box located at the bottom of OTL

:Services

:Files
C:\Windows\Installer\{12615be7-d3f5-2bec-6bb0-8355252693a5}\

:Commands
[purity]
[emptytemp]
[start explorer]
[Reboot]

[*]Then click the Run Fix button at the top
[*]Let the program run unhindered, reboot when it is done
[*]Then run a new scan and post a new OTL log ( don’t check the boxes beside LOP Check or Purity this time )

Download Combofix from the link below, and save it to your desktop.
Link

Note: It is important that it is saved directly to your desktop
If you get a message saying “Illegal operation attempted on a registry key that has been marked for deletion”, please restart your computer.

IMPORTANT - Disable your AntiVirus and AntiSpyware applications, usually via a right click on the System Tray icon. They may otherwise interfere with our tools. If you have difficulty properly disabling your protective programs, refer to this link here

Right-Click and Run as Administrator on ComboFix.exe & follow the prompts.
When finished, it will produce a report for you.
[*]Please post the C:\ComboFix.txt for further review.

ok I’ll get started on this tomorrow, I’ll try this before reinstalling or reformatting. I’m worried about that stuff, I don’t have any experience with it. I have recovery disks but no windows 7 disk.

ok my malwarebytes trial had expired so it didn’t have an option for the protection. Here are OTL logs, the one with all the numbers showed up when I rebooted after the fix, the second one is a scan. I didn’t know if you wanted me to send you these before I did the combofix or what but I’ll go ahead and do it.

The combofix file is too large to post here, what should I do? Also, thanks for your help and sorry about the wait.

Go ahead and run ComboFix. Attach the log that is made.

I think we cross posted. Please just attach the log. No worries about any wait…I had some troubles with my system and just got back online.

The file was too big to attach so I split it up into two parts.

The second part…and looks like I need a third part…sorry

part 3

[*]Very Important! Temporarily disable your anti-virus, script blocking and any anti-malware real-time protection before following the steps below. They can interfere with ComboFix or remove some of its embedded files which may cause “unpredictable results”.
[*]Referring to the screenshot above, drag CFScript.txt into ComboFix.exe.
[*]ComboFix will now run a scan on your system. It may reboot your system when it finishes. This is normal.
[*]When finished, it shall produce a log for you. Copy and paste the contents of the log in your next reply.

CAUTION: Do not mouse-click ComboFix’s window while it is running. That may cause it to stall.

Here is the log

Good…much better.

I see that you have both Webroot and Avast running on the same system. Having more than one antivirus program running at once can cause problems with the performance of your system as well as even leaving you less protected. I would recommend removing either Webroot or Avast.

Malwarebytes

I see that you have Malwarebytes already on your computer. Please open Malwarebytes, update it and then run a Quick Scan. Save the log that is created for your next reply.

Please run a free online scan with the ESET Online Scanner
[i]Note: You will need to use Internet Explorer for this scan[/i]
[*]Tick the box next to YES, I accept the Terms of Use
[*]Click Start
[*]When asked, allow the ActiveX control to install
[*]Click Start
[*]Make sure that the options Remove found threats is NOT selected and the option Scan unwanted applications is selected.
[*]Click Scan (This scan can take several hours, so please be patient)
[*]If there are threats that are found, please press List of found threats and then in the next window that opens press Export to text file…
[*]Copy and paste/or attach that log as a reply to this topic

Note If not threats are found there will not be a log created.

Download Security Check by screen317 from here or here.
[*]Save it to your Desktop.[*]Double click SecurityCheck.exe and follow the onscreen instructions inside of the black box.[*]A Notepad document should open automatically called checkup.txt [*]Please post the contents of that document.

In your next reply please attach the logs made by Malwarebytes, ESET and Security Check.

ok here you go

Run OTL.exe

[*]Copy/paste the following text written inside of the code box into the Custom Scans/Fixes box located at the bottom of OTL

Please go to Start > Control Panel > Programs and Features > remove all the Java Programs you see, now download the latest Java from the following link and install it:

http://java.com/en/download/index.jsp

You have an older version of Adobe Reader. You can download the current version HERE

You may want to consider Foxit Reader instead. It may be a bit lighter on resources.

Visit their support forum
Foxit Forum

In either case you should uninstall Adobe Reader 9 first. Be sure to move any PDF documents to another folder first though.

In your next reply please attach the OTL logs and let me know how your system is running.

A couple days ago I got another virus. It was an FBI randomware viruse that locked up my computer. I got it off but the registry may still have remnants

Have you been able to run the scans and instructions I provided earlier?

here is the reboot log and scan log. MY computer is booting up faster but has been locking up sometimes.

Hi,

Seems we have some things that are sticking around.

Run OTL.exe
