I am using Avast 6.1 Free Edition and am having trouble with site blocking function, it doesn’t always work. I have added three web sites for blocking but it doesn’t block one of the sites at all. Is there any reason for this failure and what can I do about it?
Any of those sites connecting https?
If yes, then that would be normal.
Site Blocking is based on the Web Shield.
And the Web Shield ignores https ,because it can’t decrypt it to scan it.
So therefore it can’t block them either.
Thank you for your reply but the site that I wanted blockedis not an https site. Any other ideas.
Several other sites on my list do seem to be blocked, but not one that constantly comes up.
What site is this?
Also kind of curious of what you mean by
as in, is something connecting to the site automatically without your permission?
Well it should work in the same way for all of your exclusions, so there has to be a difference in the one that doesn’t work, typo, etc. This is why we need to know the site you are trying to block and exactly what you have entered in the site blocking entry.
When posting the URLs change the http to hXXp to break the link so it isn’t active.
Why is it that you are trying to block these sites ?
The reason I ask is the web shield site blocking isn’t designed as a heavy duty blocking tool as you have to enter single entries and manage the entries manually (no import/export feature).
There are far better methods to achieve this blocking, generally most firewalls have such a feature or the HOSTS file or a HOSTS file manager software.
