Skin not loading

I just updated Avast yesterday and I tried to open it today and I got an error that said “Skin is not complete” and then says “Skin is not loaded properly”. I tried to choose a skin, but I got the same errors. I tried to cancel and the program ended up terminated. How do I fix this?

Try a repair of avast. Add Remove programs, select ‘avast! Anti-Virus,’ click the Change/Remove button and scroll down to Repair, click next and follow.

Hi

I have the same problem as Pirate 21. Following Pondus’ link and disabling skins helped. I also tried repairing the installation, but that didn’t help.
It this a bug?

I had this same problem when I used Avast 4.8. I just reinstalled it. :‘( :’( :‘( :’(

For some reason, ActiveSkin (the 3rd party library avast uses for skinning) does not seem to be working on your system, so I’m not sure if that might also be an issue:

About the “usigetskin failed” issue, if the avast! repair does not solve it:
You will have to register ACTSKIN4.OCX
Follow the instructions:

Select START → RUN…
Enter the following command:
If you have Windows NT or 2000:
C:\WINNT\SYSTEM32\REGSVR32.EXE ACTSKIN4.OCX
If you have Windows 95, 98 or ME:
C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\REGSVR32.EXE ACTSKIN4.OCX
If you have Windows XP/Vista:
C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\REGSVR32.EXE ACTSKIN4.OCX
If you have Windows XP/Vista x64:
“C:\WINDOWS\SysWOW64\REGSVR32.EXE” ACTSKIN4.OCX
Press OK (or Enter).
A message saying that the file was successfully registered should appear…

Hi DavidR

I have now registered ACTSKIN4.OCX as you described.

Now it works just fine. Thank you.

You’re welcome.

Much nicer than the skinless interface, enjoy whilst it lasts as version 5 will have a new interface and no skinning, but it is a reasonably nice interface.
