Sleep mode hangs now!!!

I installed Avast and now my computer will not go into sleep mode. More than half the time it wont go into Hibernate mode either. It just hangs there saying preparing to go into (insert mode here). I did not have this problem until I installed Avast. Is there a way around this? Am I the only one having this problem?
???

Do you have anything running in the background, e.g. VRDB generation, etc. is the avast icon rotating ?
The hibernation file can be very large and is being written to when you want to go into hibernation. the modification of this file will cause avast to scan it unless excluded, this could slow things considerably depending on the hibernation file size.

Have (or did) you have another AV installed in this system, if so what and how did you get rid of it ?

Hybernation and sleep mode are known to give problems. Just shutdown the system if you go away from it. Saves energy and money and prevent problems.

I used to have the SBC antivirus software installed on my machine, but a rather nasty virus and Trojan slipped by and I’ve switched to yours. I just used the install program and it removed itself from my machine. When it goes into sleep mode I get the blue windows screen that says preparing for hibernation… and it just sits there, I’ve left it for hours and it never goes away, I have to shut down with the power button and restart. The reason I don’t just power down is I really hate waiting for windows to start up… With hibernation mode it just takes a few moments, the power use is almost nill, so I dont mind. I dont have anything running in the background but the basic systems that have always been there. Are your telling me that Avast will cause my computer to hang when I try to put it to sleep? Is there a way to stop that?

avast! is a real time scanner. It can very well be it is scanning at the moment your system wants to go into hybernation.

Another option is that the vrdb generator is running. Check the settings and let us know how they are.

You might want to check and see if there is a manual uninstall routine for SBC antivirus and check that any registration keys, etc. have been removed, if there is a virtual device driver left behind it could cause a conflict and hang the system. Though why it would occur at hibernation/sleep mode is beyond me.
