Slow boot up??

My system is acting slow on boot up so I did a virus scan as well as running ad-aware and nothing was found however I did visit this forum about the time it was infected (it blocked one malware though) but is it possible I am infected and what can I do to check?

ps how can I check my files integrity is okay (ie not corrupted)

It will be good if you download, install, update and run AVG Antispyware. Some users recommend SUPERantispyware, Spyware Terminator and/or a-squared (take care about false positives).
If any infection is detected, better and safer is send the file to Quarantine than to simple delete than.

If you still detecting any strange behavior or even you’re sure you’re not clean, maybe it will be good to test your machine with anti-rootkit applications. I suggest AVG, Panda and/or F-Secure BlackLight.

How slow is slow, 30 seconds, 60, 120, how long ?

What applications do you have start on boot ?
These can have a major effect on start-up as avast is started fairly early in the boot so it will scan all this additional activity. If you have something like a resident anti-spyware which also scans files, this activity could cause avast to scan it as well. You should only run essential applications on boot.

You don’t say what your standard shield sensitivity is as that too can have an effect ?

I haven’t changed anything and yet its slower on boot up, sensitivity is set to normal.

I have checked my computer but it says its clean but I still feel it could be a virus

But it’s normal that things are slower… I mean, protection requires resources… How slow is it?

If you still detecting strange behaviors or you want to be sure you’re clean, maybe making a HijackThis log to post here and, specially, scan and submit to on-line analysis the RunScanner log would help to identify the problem and the solution.
