I have for about a month now had my Win 7 really slowed down , especially when browsing .
After much effort , a component in the Avast Free antivirus , has been found to be the culprit .
Attached is a screen capture with the component highlighted .
It needs to be disabled .
Hope this may help others with the same problem , and maybe Avast Support could check it out .
- Which version of Avast Free…?
- Other security related software installed…?
- Which AV(s) did you use before Avast…?
Hi Asyn ,
I have the latest version of Avast Free 19.7.2388 .
I have Malwarebytes and SuperAntiSpyware , but they do not run on Startup . I periodically run them manually , and quit them afterwards .
Have used Avast for many years now - can’t recall what may have been before .
Update to the latest version (19.8.2393): https://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=229461.0
Hi Asyn - my mistake - I did in fact have the 2393 version. For some reason Revo Uninstaller is showing the old version - that’s where I took it from . Additionally , I am still getting a slowdown , here and there - but not like before . A question - can I download an old version of Avast Free from somewhere , from like a few months ago , when I had no problems , and install over the current 2393 ?
- Download Avast Free Antivirus: https://files.avast.com/iavs9x/avast_free_antivirus_setup_offline.exe
- Follow instructions: https://www.avast.com/uninstall-utility (Run this tool for all prior installed Avast versions…!!)
- Reinstall Avast with the downloaded installer from point 1.
- Reboot.
PS: Regarding Avast & Malwarebytes, see: https://forums.malwarebytes.com/topic/200324-exclusions-for-avast-users/
Thanks Asin - you think I may have some version conflict here ?
Follow the instructions and let me/us know if it works for you.
OK - hopefully , I will be able to report that alles gut .
Hi Asyn ,
1. You’ll be pleased to hear that this does not appear to be an Avast problem ( although it may be more noticeable with Avast running ) . After uninstalling , and before reinstalling ( i.e. no Avast running ) , I tried things out , and there still was a slowdown problem ( maybe a little less ) .
2. So , it would appear there is some other issue here . Thanks for your help and time - I’ll have to keep on digging away here .
OK, thanks for the feedback.
