I am using the free version of Avast -
Program version - 2014.9.0.2018
Virus Def version - 140428-1
System - Windows 7 Pro, 64-bit with SP1
I ran Avast and it detected a virus. But I believe it is an error. The file is the uninstaller for my video game called BioShock. The location is as follows
My Documents\GameFly\games\2K Games\BioShock\Uninstall.exe
Avast says:
Severity - High
Status - Threat: Win32:Malware-gen
So I just wanted to know what the process is for working on this: I mean, do I need to send this in to the Avast engineers to look at or something else? Do I need to contact the makers of BioShock? If someone can guide me in what to do. BTW, all my other virus scans show this file as safe; i.e. Kaspersky RCD, Avira RCD, Malwarebytes, and Hitman Pro.
Hello Eggbert. Please upload that file to VirusTotal and Jotti’s malware scan. If that file has been tested before, click new scan. After that post the results here and someone who is an expert in malware can have a look at it.
You are 100% sure this file has be incorrectly identified as malware by Avast therefore you can submit that file to Avast engineers for further analysis to fix this false detection. Their email is virus@avast.com. Name the subject of your email as “False Positive”. Make sure you put this file in a password protected zip file
zip password: infected
While in the process of sending it via email. Make sure you write as much information the more the information the better. Like your Windows Operating system version, what version is your Avast, VPS version, the name of the malware being detected, and more importantly the 2 links from VirusTotal and Jotti’s Malware Scan.
Only 2 antivirus software detected this threat. It’s a possibility that it’s a false positive. Hopefully someone who is an expert in malware can view that file and look into it. Users like me are not authorized to do this action. At the meantime, you can send that file to avast via the email that I provided to you in my 1st reply make sure you provide the two links of VirusTotal and Jotti’s malware scan and information about your computer, avast program version, vps version, name of malware being detected, and etc information as you like.
