Windows 10 Pro, 64 bit, Avast free (17.2.2288). 2 year old fast Dell laptop, 8 GB memory, 140 GB files.
Smart scan, which ran 2.5-3 minutes in previous version, does not finish in 35 minutes.
Any suggestions?
Repair Avast:
- Control Panel → Add/Remove programs → Avast
- Click on ‘Repair’.
- Follow instructions.
- Reboot.
Followed instructions to a T; started smart scan after reboot, after 34 minutes still 0%.
Have another bottle of snake oil?
Bump.
Any other suggestions?
snake-oil?
Thanks
- Other security related software installed…?
- Which AV(s) did you use before Avast…?
On this machine, Avast was the first and only AV.
Malwarebytes Anti malware 3.0, demoted to free version.
- Download Avast Free Antivirus: https://files.avast.com/iavs9x/avast_free_antivirus_setup_offline.exe
- Follow instructions: https://www.avast.com/uninstall-utility (Run this tool for all prior installed Avast versions…!!)
- Reinstall Avast with the downloaded installer from point 1.
- Reboot.
Downloaded Avast offline installer.
Downloaded Avastclear, ran.
Rebooted, installed Avast.
Removed options not needed.
Ran smartscan - 30 minutes. Checked options - all harddrives were marked.
Removed all harddrives from options.
Ran smartscan - 2 minutes. Probably I should have done it earlier.
(If, at the end, I click on “details”, the scan restarts. Oh well, you can’t have everything)
Many thanks.
Tried the full scan, after 82 minutes still at 0 %. no good, no good at all…
Known bug, devs are working on it.
