How do I make the filter just hangup without sending a blocked call to voicemail?
Also, to block all 800 numbers, do I just enter 800* as a number?

Hi,
I think it shouldn’t send the call to voicemail if that is not your carrier set up.
If you want to block all 800 number, I suggest you put "country code"800* since at least 4 valid digits are required in custom numbers.
Filip
Hi Filip.
My blocked calls get sent to voicemail. If I call the carrier STRAIGHT TALK and I tell them that the avast call filter is blocking calls and sending them to voicemail, they won’t know anything about that. What exactly is happening when avast blocks a call so I can tell them what event get triggered? If they know what event gets triggered they might know what to do.
My phone does have call forwarding options. It has Forward When Busy, Forward When Unanswered & Forward When Unreachable. When avast blocks a call, is it using one of the above? I would hate if it’s using Forward When Unanswered. I wouldn’t want to change that and then never get voicemails. It should be able to just disconnect/drop the call.
If I put "country code"800* in the custom number field, will that work since all the calls will come thru without showing the country code? These calls will only show up on caller ID as 1-“area code”-number or “area code”-number without a country code.
Hi,
both issues really depends on the specific device and ROM you are using. I think that at first we try to just hang up the call. If that doesn’t succeed, you get disconnected from the network for a brief amount of time (a few seconds) so the call gets dropped by the network. I think that might be the “Forward When Unreachable” option, but it’s just a guess.
About the numbers, we don’t know if the dashes are being propagated to us or not, but what you might try is this: 1…800* or without the leading 1, but be careful as this might block some other numbers as well (that really depends on how numbers in your country look like, both landline and cell, how many digits can they have, overseas numbers etc).
Filip
I had someone call me twice from an 800 number. The first time, my caller ID showed …
(800) 867-1234
The second time it showed…
1 800-867-1234
So I guess it can vary even when it comes from the exact same number. Filip, based on this info, how would you recommend I add an area code to the call filter?
Hi,
hmm, based on the numbers I would go with 1800* and would wait to see if it blocks both of them or not (it should definitely block the second one).
Filip
I will give it a try. Also, I tried to change the forwarding settings on the phone for “Forward When Unreachable” but I got an error that the network does not support changing this. Is it possible the developers can look into why the blocked calls are simply not dropped? I am using a Nexus 4.
Hi,
we don’t have Nexus 4 so not at the moment, sorry.
Filip
Ok thanks.
Does anyone else have any experience/suggestions to get filtered calls to just drop and not get send to voicemail?
Well, now the SPAM callers that are on the block list are leaving pre-recorded messages on my voicemail. This is really awful. I wish Avast would figure out how to just disconnect/drop a call. It appears that Avast is just using Android’s reject function. That function sends calls to voicemail. The filter has some really great potential but this area needs to be addressed.
Hi,
if you turn off your phone and try to call yourself, does it go to voicemail as well?
Filip
Yes, it does.
Then you have to change this behavior I’m afraid.
Filip
But isn’t that normal behavior for Android and most other devices? That is the way the phone should work. If you turn off the phone, calls should go to voicemail. The app shouldn’t require someone to lose this functionality. Other apps that block calls disconnect/drop the call without going to voicemail and without requiring modifying proper phone functionality. I don’t know how they do it. Perhaps they answer then hang-up the call. The point is it can be done.
I’m going to use Avast for protection so it would be really nice to use the call blocking feature as well instead of having to install another app just to do that.
Hi,
actually I personally don’t know anyone who has voicemail active at any circumstances. And picking up then hanging the call is not an option either, I think that would make a lot of our users angry (me included). If you can point me to some apps that do what you want I can try to look at it, but since I have been rather busy lately, I can’t make any promises.
Filip
Thanks for continuing to look into this Filip. The app I used before this was Root Call Blocker Pro. Blocked calls were just disconnected.
Hi,
yeah, but that’s a root solution, I’m looking for a non-rooted one. I’m afraid we are not going to add any rooted features to Mobile Security anytime soon, sorry.
Filip
That was just one. There is also Call Blocker by Embware and Mr. Number which are not root apps that work also.
