I have the Galaxy s3 with Avast Mobile security. I love the SMS filter which allows you to block or allow a text messages if the person is not in your contact list.
I just started having an issue a few days ago…when I get a text from an unknown number and the BLOCK/ALLOW selection appears on my phone…when I select ALLOW…the phone freezes for about 5 seconds…and then I get an error that Avast has shut down. The worst part is the message disappears completely and I can view it nor can I locate anywhere on the phone or in Avast. I’ve had to uninstall Avast because I need to receive messages from people that are not yet in my contacts. Has anyone else had this issue? I recently updated my phone to Jellybean which is when the issue first began.
actually I’m afraid this can’t be fixed. Google made some significant changes to the OS in the latest versions and effectively broke this feature without any means of repairing it on non-rooted devices so we decided to remove it on from now on. I’m sorry since you seem to enjoyed it pretty much
Sadly, this happened to me today on a Samsung Galaxy Ace II (GT-I8160) with Gingerbread.XXLK6 kernel version 2.6.35.7-1211243 dated 15th November.
The lost text was from a friend who now lives in another country telling me how to contact her so its loss is serious
Is there a way to disable just the SMS filtering or is the only option to uninstall the app?
Hi Steve,
Does your friend’s number already in your contacts list?
You can disable this SMS Filtering function Shield Control>Message Shield> Untick “Offer to block messages”. That way will not shown dialog to block/ allow numbers which is not in your contacts list.
Hello Filip,
You mean you will remove SMS & Call Filter function ?
No, my friend’s text was to tell me her new numbers in Sweden. Luckily, I was not her only friend when she was here in the UK so I can ask one of the others when I see them next, but I imagine my friend will be wondering why I haven’t replied.
Thanks for the info on where the SMS filtering on/off switch is! As I couldn’t find it, I’d uninstalled the app to stop the situation happening again if she’d sent another text, so now I’ve been able to reinstall it.
Thanks for the reply. By “SMS Filtering”, I meant “Message Shield”. Sorry, I’m not that familiar with the terminology of the app.
I haven’t had an Android phone long & I didn’t send a crash report as I get a huge load of legal guff I don’t understand from Google when I try that. I don’t know what I’m reporting & to whom ??? It’s just too confusing even for someone who’s been using Linux since RedHat 5.2!
actually in Mobile Security we have our own crash reporting system (so if you have Community IQ enabled, the crash is in our database). Apart from that, you can point me to the exact crash by going to Settings-About-Send feedback, where you’ll choose “Crash report”, preferably check all the checkboxes, write a small description and provide a valid email address. You will then receive an email with a unique ticked ID to our support system which I can use to track the specific crash and take a look at it Note that the sooner after the crash you send it, the easier it will be for me to find it and investigate it. Also this information is being sent directly to AVAST, no connection to Google or other companies whatsoever.
Hi Filip,
It is not a good sound hearing that the blocking incoming messages from unknown numbers will be removed next release update.
But, I think that as a security software, avast! has to protect users against spam messages. As I know, now we just be able to block calls or messages from user-defined numbers (users provide a number to be blocked).
So, I suggest the company develop “Smart Filter” function, or sth like that. This function, recognize spam message (such as ads, sexual, etc.) and move it into avast! storage, which can be restore by users if these messages is not spam or just simple that users would like to do this :D.
What do you think about my suggestion?
I would love to have such feature in AMS, but as I said before, this idea was discussed in the company already and if I remember correctly, there are some legal issues attached to that so I’m not sure it will become reality (even though it’s pretty much possible technical-wise). I’m no lawyer so I can’t really tell you more, sorry.
