So I got a virus, now what

Hey there,

I got a virus, but many times I know that there is additional cleanup needed. I got the virus, Win32:Nilage-GC now where do I go to see what it is and what it did and what I need to do? There is no silly way to look up viruses on the AVAST web page, or at least I can not find it.

  • What Operating System are you using ?
  • What avast! version and VPS file (virus database) number, e.g. 0630-2 (see about avast!) ?
  • What is the infected file name, where was it found e.g. (C:\windows\system32\infected-file-name.xxx) ?
    Check the avast! Log Viewer (right click the avast icon), Warning section, this contains information on all avast detections.
  • What actions have you taken to try and resolve the problem (avast gives options on detection, what did you choose) ?
