Hello, my name is Andi, I develop freeware video games. Over the last month, the games I develop have started being flagged by Avast. The games themselves are not being flagged, rather the included file libportaudio_x86.dll is being flagged. Users tell me Avast is marking this file as “Win32:Evo-gen”. Avast is preventing games containing this file from being downloaded or, if it is downloaded, deleting the libportaudio file (which causes the game to crash).
PortAudio is an open source audio library used in many products. This particular PortAudio DLL I built myself, using MinGW GCC running on a Macintosh, in May of 2013. I have been distributing games containing this file since then and never had a problem until a month or two ago. I also find on Google that around a month or two ago many complaints begin appearing on these forums about this particular “Evo-gen” test producing many false positives. I am very confident in the safety of this file.
What can I do so that Avast users will be able to play my games? Is there an appeals process? Is there something Avast would recommend I do in order to make my PortAudio DLL not flag your “Evo-gen” somehow? I have submitted to the Avast contact form.
I can link a copy of the problem file if that is allowed under this forum’s rules.
Thanks
