Hi,
Until yesterday, I had continued to get a “critical” status regarding my software updates, saying I needed to update Jave Runtime 6. As I already had Java 7 Runtime on my computer, I just removed Java 6 from my program files. Then, I checked “ignore” on the message. Today, it says “Good” for my software status. I hope this is not because I had chosen to ignore the warning yesterday.
In other words, shouldn’t you delete an earlier version of Java and just use the most current one? Thanks for any help.
You should only have the latest Java installed, which is JRE7 U25 17. It is possible to have both JRE6 and JRE7 installed, as installing JRE7 doesn’t remove JRE6. For a very few people, there might be a need for both versions if a specific installed program calls for a specific JRE.
Your software status showing “Good” is more likely the result from the removal of JRE 6, although ignore would have also change it.
Unless you have a program that needs Java, or a web site that requires it, most people have no need for Java at all.
