I’m having a problem with Software Updater and the most current version of Winzip. Software Updater is telling me that my install of Winzip needs to be updated. The problem is that Software Updater is telling me that the current version of Winzip available is “28.0.10661.0”. According to the official Winzip website the most recent version is 18.0.10650 which is the version I have installed. These versions are all 64bit. The version of avast! Free is 2014.9.0.2008.
Here’s what I have tried:
Clicked “Refresh” in the Software Updater window - no change
Reset the Software Updater database via “Settings” → “Tools” → “Software Updater” → Customize - no change
Clicked “Update” from the Software Updater screen and downloaded (and installed) the version of Winzip offered by C|net - no change
Uninstalled Winzip, rebooted, installed Winzip (which I downloaded from the Winzip website), rebooted again - no change
I’m running out of ideas! If someone with Winzip installed on their system would check to see what their Software Updater says I would appreciate it. If anyone has any ideas on how to resolve the issue I’m having please let me know!!
On my system Avast’s software updater thinks that the latest version of winzip is 31.0.12670.0. It is and it isn’t. That is/was the version number of the installer. The actual program (on mine) is version 22.0. So the Avast system wants to update because 31 seems later than 22. I have told the Avast software updater to ignore winzip. In the case of this program one loses little by doing this as Winzip (the company) do not offer free upgrades for their products so the Avast software updater couldn’t update even if it did get the version numbers right.
After further investigation, it turns out the WinZip currently installed on my computer is actually WinZip 19 (which is indeed obsolete), but the version is set to 29 within the .exe for some reason.
