Solution for users stuck on 0% Full Scan

Hi folks,

A work around if you are stuck on Zero (0) is as follows.

  1. Click on the Protection Icon (The padlock)

  2. Click on Antivirus Run anti malware scans (The spy glass)

  3. Click on other scans

  4. Click on Folder Scan

  5. Pick your root drive/s folder (My root drive is C:), then click OK.

Avast will then start scanning. I found that this solves the constant Zero, and the percentage soon increases as the scan continues.

Hope this helps.

There is no “constant zero” - it’s just that the specific area (full antirootkit scan) currently doesn’t show any progress (and can take quite a while to complete); however, if you wait long enough, this part will be done and the progress will grow.
Yes, if you use a different scan which doesn’t include an antirootkit scanning, it won’t happen.

The progress estimation for the antirookit scan has already been implemented, it will be included in the next program update.

My friend, waiting over 12 hours while its still on “ZERO”, I call constant. Avast is a great free scanner, but it must be a design flaw to not show any progress.

Im not the only one who has had this problem. https://tinyurl.com/yb6o6eaw A user should not have to resort to “tricks” in order to have confidence that a scan is running.

Thanks.

I installed full paid latest version of Internet security yesterday on my Windows 10 laptop.

I ran a smart scan first which went ok but when I tried to run the full scan I noticed like you all say here that progress wheel was stuck on 0% for a long enough time for me to consider this unusual.

I contacted Avast uk support on 0800 0148929 and spoke to this guy who immediately wanted to dial in using a kind of logmein client. He ran some tests and tried to tell me my whole network and router and dns was infected and that several services were not running in Windows and a right click on avast .exe icon showed if it was in comparability mode it would be Windows 8 even though it wasn’t ticked.
He said all of this was causing a bad connection to the avast servers and that’s why it was stuck on 0% he said even if I format all of my pc’s s it would reinfect because it’s my network which is infected.

He then went on to suggest he can put me in touch with a company that could fix this all for me for one off fee of £200

I then said too much and he came down to £100!!

What a truly unprofessional way to run a support dept
Of course I didn’t fall for his BS
Strange how my other company laptop on same network running a business full version of avast is working ok.

I put the phone down feeling scammed by Avast!!

Thanks
Just thought I would post it here to warn others

You’re welcome. (I reported it to the support team as well…)

After a bit more digging it looks like I fell for a fake site appearing to be Avast uk support site http://avastcustomerservice.co.uk

Official support: https://support.avast.com

Thanks you can see how a person could be fooled by the fake one.

Unfortunately, there are many such fake scam sites out there… :frowning:
