(Solved)Avast Free Scan Stops After 10 Files

Version 17.6.2310 (Build 17.6.3625.0). Definitions 170916-0
Let full scan run all night, and it only scans 10 files and still shows 0%.
Had this once before (different version of Free back then?) and the person helping me thought it could be a ZeroAccess infection, never really said if it was or not. Did some malware checking with Farbar. They had me remove Skype and OoVoo. Pretty sure I recently updated to this version of Free.
SuperAntiSpyware and Malwarebytes run fine and no other symptoms that I can see.
Here’s the previous thread I had here for the same problem. In the old thread, not sure how, I was able to determine it was stopping at the file named: winlogon.exe. Can’t see that now.

Thanks

Farbar doesn’t check for malware as it is not anti-malware software but diagnostic software.

Thanks for correcting my terminology Eddy.

Just a quick addendum: I can run Quick Scan with no issues. It took about twenty minutes, looked at 79,000 files, and 47.1GB of data.

Please advise.

Thank you for your time.

There is a problem with showing the percentage scanned in the GUI.
Although it shows 0% and there seem to be no progress, the scanning actually continues.

Please post the last e.g. 15 lines from the scan log.

I’ve attached a pic of the scan history screen. When I highlight a scan and click “detailed report”, nothing happens. All I have is “detail” in the bottom panel.
The first scan listed is the one that ran all night.

I don’t believe the Detailed Report is available from the Scan History unless there has been any detections, errors, etc.

All of the scan information is right there in front of you: Run Time; Tested files; Tested folders; Amount of data tested; Infected files. That is the sum of the recorded information for the scan selected.

See image extract of a scan that found something (on a test I did) when selected and you click the Detailed report.

Problem is that the scan doesn’t finish according to the OP.
That is why I want to see the scan log.

…it ran all night and only recorded that it tested 10 files…still was saying 0% in the morning…so according to Avast…it doesn’t finish…not me
But, the Quick Scan tested 70,000+ files. Are the same initial files looked at in the full scan as in the quick?

I’m still waiting for the scan log.

As I stated in Reply#4, there are no logs, at least at the GUI level.
If there’s another way to navigate to the logs, please show the way.
Thanks

Update:
I went to C:\ProgramData\AvastSoftware\Avast\log and there are a bunch of files there. Is this where to get them from, if so, what are the files called. I’m assuming they are text files, but there’s a bunch of text files at that location.

Information on the scans can be found here C:\ProgramData\AVAST Software\Avast\report Win7 or later OS. The scan file name and report should be the same, e.g. C:\ProgramData\AVAST Software\Avast\report\Quick scan.txt for the Quick Scan.

This location C:\ProgramData may be hidden in your OS Folder settings so you may have to view Hidden Files and Folders.

thanks…check my reply #9

Read my reply again, as you are looking in the wrong folder.

OK, attached is a screen shot of what I’m hoping is the right place… :-[

It isn’t the screenshot, my image was an example of where to look.

Eddy is after the actual file containing the data on the scan.

However there are no report logs for any scans in your image, so it looks like you aren’t Generating the Scan file. You need to open the Scan settings that you have been running and under the Report File check the option to Generate report file.

I definitely do not have a screen that looks like yours. I checked under everything. How do you get to that screen. I’ve attached a screen shot of the closest thing to “enable logging” I could find…Thanks

Because you aren’t looking in the correct section, I said you need to edit the scan settings.

You need to open the Scan settings that you have been running and under the Report File check the option to Generate report file.

My image is of a scan, AvastUI > Protection > Antivirus - In that section you see 3 Scans, Smart Scan (settings for that are in a different location), Run Full Virus Scan and Other Scans, which will open another section for those. Lets deal with the Full Virus Scan at the top of its square there is a cog wheel, that is the settings link for the scan (that is the same when you go to the Other scans section).

Now you are at the point of my earlier attached image, and there you need to select Report File.

I would suggest that you have a good look around the UI to get familiar with where things are.

I feel like you are going to put me into detention.
Thanks for your patience, I found where I should be.
Should I only select “infected items” and “hard errors” to report(default), or since I’m having issues, select the others; soft errors, OK items and skipped items?

You should not select anything in the GUI.
Sjees, navigate to the log file and attach it to your next post here.
