SOLVED: Firefox & Web Shield issues and betas 2014.9.0.2014 & 2014.9.0.2015

Firefox wouldn’t load this link with either the last (9.0.2014) or new (9.0.2015) betas:

Longer description:

Had problem navigating to link above (Firefox showed busy for a few seconds, but nothing loaded) when had beta 2014.9.0.2014 installed. I then did an uninstall, ran avastclear in safe mode, installed beta 2014.9.0.2015, and, after a reboot, still when I navigate to the below link nothing loaded (Firefox again showed busy for a few seconds and then quit with a blanks screen).

The link worked fine in Internet Explorer 11.

Quick-and-dirty work-around:

I noticed firewall settings were different between IE and Firefox, so I ended up changing the firewall rules for Firefox for Outbound ports: ALL, Inbound ports: All, and then the page would load. I am not sure opening up all ports to Firefox is the right approach, but it got the job done. ← did not work

Configuration:

My system is Windows 7 Home Premium SP1 (64-bit), Firefox is 27.0.1 with add-ins of AdBlock Plus (disabling on AVSFORUM didn’t change behavior), WOT, Tweak Network Settings (currently set Firefox to default settings) and, alas, also AOS.

Also, Avast icon in toolbar no longer responds to right+click.

Oops, it happened again with the ports wide open to Firefox, so it appears to be intermittent, but I notice it most on AVSFORUM.

Now I am trying with Web Shield disabled.

Edited to add: Had no problems until the Web Shield kicked back in. Then I couldn’t get to http://www.avsforum.com/t/681125/oled-tvs-technology-advancements-thread/8760#post_24484039
until I again disabled Web Shield.

Solved. From googling around, found the fix with the pointer back to these forums, specifically to:

Thanks for the report. We will try that. Lukas
