edit(2/19/10): problem#1 is solved too. ;D

Hello,

#1
I again tried today to update my IE7 to IE8, and again facing same problem, in short, ie now opens local files with an error, if it’s already not running in the background.

I made a video of the problem, here is the http://www.mediafire.com/?mniuk01hmyy.

[s]I also updated my office 2000 to (office sp3), and almost have the same problem as above.
However with office the problem only shows, if I run them from non-admin useer account. ::slight_smile:

edit: solved

just hoping someone could help…
thanks

PS: I did search on google, and found similar things (so I’m not alone ;D) , but unfortunately no fix. :frowning:

Playwin2,

Have the problems arise with other similar tools? eg. firefox/opera for browser?

Hello Cahya,

No, the problem only shows with IE, other browsers (Opera 10.10, Firefox 2.0.0.16, K-Meleon 1.5.3 and Iron) works perfectly.

thanks…

Make sure you downloaded IE8 from this site.

It’s for XP only. You might have used the Vista or some other download site.

IE8 works on XP, Vista and Windows 7 and your link does not work:

@ playwin2

As you do not indicate in your signature are you running XP with SP3 installed?

Hello guys,

one request, could somebody post here the content of “HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\htmlfile” and what under “none:url:HyperTextTransferProtocol” at fileTypes, thanks.

@YoKenny
it’s SP2

@Corday
Yeah, I got the right installer.
also I think your link is invalid

thanks.

Windows XP Service Pack 3 has been available for over a year and a half plus it provides many Critical Updates and performance improvements.

You need to start Internet Explorer then go to Tools then Windows Update and download all of the available updates.

Go to Control Panel then Automatic Updates then select Automatic (recommended) or at least Notify me but don’t automatically download or install them.

Go to Secunia Online Software Inspector then run it to see what applications are vulnerable:

Thanks, but I’m not interested in SP3.

Is it because you can’t update to SP3?

Wait I have noticed something!
When you upgrade(xp/xp sp1/xp sp2) to xp sp3 the colour of the windows icon becomes gray
When you install the windows xp service pack 3 directly the icon is the same as xp home or pro

I don’t think so.

I updated to XP 3 and I find no difference.

Maybe I am not noticing it.

Hello … well I’m not sure what do you mean ???

My compaq pc (which is dead now, mobo got damaged) had sp3, when ms released it. Frankly I feel disappointment about sp3, no enhancement, no new tools, basically just some(mostly unuseful, killbits etc.) sec updates, few new services which no one will use etc.

Hello,

I’m trying various things… and noticed…if I change the original dde command “%1”,-1,0," of the html filetype to blank then, this problem goes away, but it then introduce a new problem, every html file then now open in a new window instead of a new tab. ::slight_smile:

any ideas please…
