(Solved) why boot scan definitions download takes much time?

Hi, One of the san that avast specially has is its bootscan. i schedule a boot scan. There was a tab to install additonal definitions for boot scan. I just clicked and it goes on for minutes. Can i wait it to finish. Are the definitions file size for boot scan is large size? or is there a bug? A black progressive bar is moving left and right for ever. please give me solutions
N.B: It still stay there , installing but never completing or how much percentage is installed?

Why are you trying to run a boot-scan in the first place ?

Please see the plus point of boot scan and then ask me. It seems that you are bent upon questioning me rather than giving answers

There is no plus point for a boot scan other than to delete infections that are not possible to delete when Windows has already started.

Hi, Yes that is the reason for why i tried boot scan. My problem is given cleanly. I have waited for half an hour and still , it is installing. so , i ask

Follow these instructions > https://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=194892.0

Hi, Eddy , not at all related reply . It is general tools to fix bugs in other program . My problem with the downloading and installing of extra definitions related to boot scans.

The reply sure is related as you are running a boot scan to remove a infection.
If not, you shouldn’t run a boot scan at all.

Are normal updates for avast working ?

Hi, Normal updates are working . No problem . only special definitions for boot scan , is hanging, or running continuously

Hi, Eddy, The question was raised recently. Since then i had not opened the avast. To day, i opened the avast, and the bootscan information is posted here. Probably , there is a bug, in the installation process . Today on opening, i found that it is ready to scan with specific definition updates. Avast staff, please note . It seems that it is looping , in installing …screen there.

You could perform a repair or clean installation to see if it fixes things.

Hi, Eddy, Please check at your end whether it completes in the same session and then inform. I was waiting for one hour, but it was still looping at the same progress. the black bar goes left and right. Probably on reboot, the system would have shown the correct position. Anyhow, i will try that repair option also.

Repair Avast:
Control Panel> Program and Features (Add/remove program)>Select Avast> Select Repair. Reboot when completed

If Repair doesn’t fix the problem, try the following:
Clean Install of Avast:

Hi, Bob, Thanks for your advice. But did you try to download the boot scan definition files and it is finishing on the session? pl let me know.
I have already repaired . Thank you.

No, If I were to run a boot scan, I would launch it through the UI. Since the definitions are already update, what’s there to wait for ???

Hi, There are some special definitions for boot scan alone. For that you need to download separate definitions files from avast.
The boot scan is performed when the system does not have any service loaded. If the virus , is found, it would ask for options to quarantine or delete. I usually run this once in a while, as nobody knows that we are downloading with the original files. Boot scan shows, corruption in the zip file that would enable you to delete it.
The scan would be fast compared to the GUI scan. I experienced an issue of a virus in sound form, which avast did not find in full scan in windows running. I just resorted to boot scan, and it found out and asked me the option. i quarantine. i do not know the exact name, but the virus is downloaded in the form of wave , with a music or video file. Please do the boot scan and then tell your experience

Since you’re the one having a problem and want help from Avast, I suggest you do the following:
Submitting a support file using the Avast Support Tool https://www.avast.com/faq.php?article=AVKB33#artTitle

If avast doesn’t detect something in normal mode, it also will not detect it during a boot scan and visa versa.

Sorry but that’s not exactly true.
