[SOLVED] Will AIS license still be valid after reformating OS?

Hi guys, my AIS license (for 3 computers) is currently used up on 3 different machines. If I were to reformat one of the computers, can the license be used on that computer again after I reinstalled the OS, or will it not recognize it? Also, I saved a copy of the license key, but when I purchased the Internet Security package it said it must be used by June 3, which is already past. (Or can the key I get from the resend license be used past that date?)

Plus, if anyone knows if the Windows Vista operating system CD’s are different or not, (can a OS disc from another comp. be used on this one) then that would be helpful.

Many thanks,

As far I know you can use the license key in the new machine. Better trying to uninstall in the previous one.
And yes, Windows Vista CD can be used in another computer, if you use the correct (original) key for the installation.

Save your license file before formatting then that file should be good for the duration of the license period. I think that the restriction refers to using a link in the email to download the license file, etc.

You can probably use another OS Disk, provided it is the same version, but you must have the OS license key for the original system.

Thanks for the quick reply ;D

The only thing I still don’t get is the OS disk: Doesn’t the CD contain the license? In previous re-formats, I don’t remember having to enter a license key for the OS, all I did was use the CD. Is the disc all I need to reformat?

Well, I’m not sure. But you can get the installed key with MSKeyViewerPlus 2.1.0 http://www.softpedia.com/get/System/System-Info/MSKeyViewer-Plus.shtml

Supposing you won’t need any data from it ::slight_smile:

Alright, thanks again

directly sent to me from avast sales:

"Thank you for your email.

From what you describe, we dont have any problem with you re-entering your license key numerous times upon re-installing avast.

I hope that this help."

this was in question to formatting and reinstalling as many as once a month on the systems… so yes you will be fine

I appreciate the confirmation, zfactor
