Someone might be stealing from Avast.

Hi people,
I recently discovered a website http://www.pcdoctoronline.com/ which claims to offer an Antivirus product. It mentions a few technologies developed by Avast, but when you clik “Download” you are actually downloading the installer of Comodo Internet Security. Also the website is in Comodo style.

Well, how exactly are they stealing from avast if the download is for comodo?

Sounds like they are just using some “technologies” on their website, but not the actual software.

Fake site!
A mixture of Comodo and avast…
Take care!

Yep, I agree. They look fake to me too. I submitted a ‘beware’ statement for ethical behavior on WOT (Web of Trust). If enough people do that, maybe they’ll go away. ::slight_smile: :-\

Me too.

Confirmed as being fake by Comodo side.

Tech, maybe just a small detail, but so far nothing has been confirmed by Comodo.

Ronny is just a volunteer Dutch moderator on Comodo Forums, NOT a Comodo employee. He can not speak for Comodo and/or represent them.

Greetz, Red.

I need to get used to this fact… I always consider a moderator from the staff…
I pass the same here: some user consider me as being avast staff.

For a short time that was the assumption I was under, that you where an employee of Avast!
Easy mistake being new to forums in general. Your “Avast Technical” title has that effect on newbies

This is an iffy bit under the features tab

avast! Community IQ

Most samples we process come from sensors deployed throughout the avast! community in the Behavior shield and anti-rootkit modules. This is a unique source of data made possible only thanks to our huge user base. Most of the collected samples are analysed by a number of automated processes and only a small fraction of the samples need to be processed manually by our virus analysts.

I see someone else submitted a rating on this fake site as I get a WOT pop-up now. See image below.

I don’t see the point. Why is this site created? I notified Comodo about that (You have already read my post) and this is not related to them. And it doesn’t require information or something else… Very strange. I discovered it after googling onlinepcdoctor, which is a well known scam. This site contains some useful information http://www.pcdoctoronline.com/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=32
but it also misleads the users mixing up numbers of antivirus porducts.

No, that warning is because you gave it a bad rating.

Actually,

After I rated the site it still would let me go there as I rated it for “ethical” reasons. But this other person - I think maybe you from image below - rated it for “Phishing”. With the two ratings, WOT stopped me. I see now there are at least 8 folks who have rated it badly.

Really… WOT is land of nobody… I can’t understand how can you trust in it… It misses malware and phising, block clean sites… Not trustable.

Last year I asked posters here what they thought of WOT before I installed it. Everyone who posted said it was pretty good… but depended on ‘user input’. I agree it does miss some things, but when I’m Googling for something I can sure stay away from the red links.

See image below for one of my favorites: ;D

I agree. Plus, alot of sites aren’t even rated, or just rated wrongly. ::slight_smile:

Security is not a matter of opinions… It’s a job for specialists imho.

Yeah, I only use WOT sometimes for phishing sites.
Btw, I heard avast is developing something like the WOT toolbar, is that correct?

I’ve heard (read) too. Some kind of information through the avast community.
