Sorting Computers by OU

We are a large organization (6000+ machines) and make heavy use of OU’s in Active Directory for segregating machines by department for distributed administration. It looks like this feature is missing in the built-in discovery task. We need to be able to group computers by OU, not just by domain.

Is it possible to automate the importing of computers from a flat file? If so, we may be able to go about it that way, but we have way too many OU’s to do this manually with any regularity.

If you are EDU maybe you have to use this http://forum.avast.com/index.php?board=55.0

I think this is the better forum for the question since this where all the discussion on EAC is taking place.

Brian

Yes Brian, I agree with you, this is the best board.

I only want to know your opinion about a duplicated board: this and EDU.

I’m not sure what the edu board is for, unless it’s for discussions relating to the program itself. The documentation we received when we joined the edu program specifically pointed us to this board for technical questions.

Brian

Have you try the “Import computer…” option in the properties of the “Computer Catalog”?

Here is a guide: http://www.avast-antivirus.es/pdf/enterprise-administration-user-guide.pdf

@EDJ i havent looked into the EDU board but the technical functioning of the software is not different if you have an EDU licence. The only difference is that the EDU license is with a nice discount. So actually no point in having an EDU board seperately unless you really feel the need to discus the price difference…?

@wpn

this is my point of view too. I don’t understand why a special board for technical issue for EDU if they use avast! Free Antivirus, avast! Free Antivirus for Mac, avast! Mobile Security and avast! Endpoint Protection Suite which have their own boards.

unless you really feel the need to discus the price difference....?

What price? It’s FREE.

Yes, I saw the import option. My question is, can this be automated? We have too many OU’s to do a manual import for each OU on a regular basis.

Brian

@brianm1002 no at this point there is no (DOCUMENTED) possibility of automating object import.
Maybe it can be put in as an RFC
