Space gobbler???

I use avast for a year now and was extremely satisfied with it till today! I discovere that I have a bunch of directories in Winnt\Temp_avast4_ which start with un and than some numbers. They were hiding 1,5 gig of files!!! What is it??? I tried to erase them - to no avail…
I have 4k space left on my disk and waiting for a huge crush!

Hmm, why isn’t it possible to delete them? It should be (for most of them).

Some older versions of avast 4 indeed had problems causing the temp files not to be cleaned up properly.

I have no clue. In any case, if there was such a bug, how come I HAVE IT if my Avast updates every few days.

Well what is the timestamp of the files? Are they all new?

They’re more likely left there by one of the previous versions…

What error are you getting when deleting the files? Sharing violation?

I get no error ??? I just delete it through Total commander and … they stay there

Oh, yes and the time - five folders with different times beginning with september 19.

I deleted them! I do not know what happened but I booted my computer few times and tried to delete them every time. Finally it helped. Also, I got a hunch that these are VRDB leftovers. I switched it off just in case, and now I do not know was VRDB successful at least once and I do have some protection or not?

No, these files have nothing to do with the VRDB. They’re most likely leftovers from some deep archive scan - unpacked temporary files.

The VRDB does not produce any temp files - it just uses its master DB file, located in \data\integ.

Aha! Thanks for something positive! BTW - one file did appear in this directory now - clnr0.dll. Also, I probably did not make myself clear - the files were not temp - they were regular files - dlls, exes and so on.

clnr0.dll is OK - it’s the integrated avast cleaner, extracted from the VPS file (on every avast startup).

Were there many .vpu files among them?

I have very unstable recollections of what I saw, I was so shaken. I acted like a child,- stupid me! I just looked inside of every directory and saw just regular files from …system32 directory. Maybe they were from other directories as well, but I was so shocked by the fact that I have only 4k left on my C: disk that I started to delete them immediately. To my amaze they did not want to dissapear.

It’s most likely a leftover from scanning of some CAB file containing Windows installation.

Sorry to dissappoint, but why those “leftovers” were multiplying - the last directorywas dated by the yesterday’s date.
