Spyfalcon

Hello everybody

Yesterday evening after starting my PC ( under Windows XP french edition SP2 ) an new icon was in the systray. When I put the mouse over it, I got “Alert virus”.
Right click : no effect
Left click : web site www.spyfalcon.com

Can someone tell me :

  • if he has got this problem
  • why Avast hasn’t recognized the trojan when he was lauched ?

Sincerely.

I am not sure I understand the problem you describe.

It appears that you installed this “SpyFalcon” product.

Are you asking:

Why did avast allow you to install it?

-or-

Why did it find a problem that avast did not report?

I’m sure I haven’t installed spyfalcon.

I would like to know why Avast didn’t report anything.

It appears that you, somebody who uses your system or a site that you visited must have installed this product on your system.

By way of research I just downloaded and installed the product on my system. avast found no virus signature in the setup file or during the installation and initial startup of the product, which claims to be an anti-spyware product. Of course, there are such products that are themselves spyware.

avast is an anti-virus product. It found this product not to be infected - so there is no reason it would warn you when this product was installed on your system.

By the way – I have now restored my system to a point before I downloaded this product - I would advise any other readers not to download such products for a “look see” unless they can also restore their systems to a point prior to the download.

A google search for spyfalcon will open your eyes, this just one of the hits http://blogs.zdnet.com/Spyware/index.php?p=770 also check out http://www.spywarewarrior.com/rogue_anti-spyware.htm

Check this valuable resource for any supposed anti-spyware product you are considering and ensure they aren't Rogue/Suspect Anti-Spyware Products.

 Hi Gtaillandier :

I have seen the symptom you described ( "Spyfalcon" in the
System Tray " ) mentioned in other forums; the
recommendation is to ask for help on the forum(s) of your
antiSPYWARE provider. If you know of none, I would
 recommend www.landzdown.com .

This is not something that was knowingly downloaded, it hides in other software or on popups. It was called spysheriff/spyaxe but everyone found out how to get rid of it so they changed the programme and name. It is not a classic virus though it is malware pure and simple. See this for further info http://blogs.zdnet.com/Spyware/index.php?p=770

It could have been installed thru a Windows Exploit if your system is not up to date.
