Spysweeper problem

Hi,
I got the following warnings :
4/04/2007 10:58:10 SYSTEM 1364 Sign of “Win32:Delf-BPK [Trj]” has been found in “C:\Program Files\Webroot\Spy Sweeper\SpySweeperUI.exe” file.
14/04/2007 17:50:36 SYSTEM 1756 AAVM - scanning warning: x_AavmCheckFileDirectEx [UNI]: C:\Program Files\Webroot\Spy Sweeper\Masters\masters.bak (C:\Program Files\Webroot\Spy Sweeper\Masters\masters.bak) returning error, 00000005.
14/04/2007 17:50:47 SYSTEM 1756 AAVM - scanning warning: x_AavmCheckFileDirectEx [UNI]: C:\Program Files\Webroot\Spy Sweeper\Masters\masters.mst (C:\Program Files\Webroot\Spy Sweeper\Masters\masters.mst) returning error, 00000005.

I still can open spyweeper, but the scan stops after the cookies, and takes a very long time.
Changed the settings in the standard shield, but only for Spysweeper UI.Exe.
Don’t know what to do about the other errors.
A solution please ?
Thanks.

A forum search for SpySweeperUI.exe will show this as a possible false positive, http://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=27023.msg220278#msg220278, ensure you have the latest avast VPS and scan again.

If still detected you could also check the offending/suspect file for confirmation at: VirusTotal - Multi engine on-line virus scanner I feel virustotal is the better option as it uses the windows version of avast (more packers supported) and there are currently 32 different scanners.
Or Jotti - Multi engine on-line virus scanner if any other scanners here detect them it is less likely to be a false positive. Whichever scanner you use, you can’t do this with the file in the chest, you will need to move it out.

If it is indeed a false positive, add it to the exclusions lists (Standard Shield, Customize, Advanced, Add and Program Settings, Exclusions) and periodically check it (scan it in the chest), there should still be a copy in the chest even though you restored it to the original location. When it is no longer detected then you can also remove it from the Standard Shield and Program Settings, exclusions.
Also see (Mini Sticky) False Positives, how to report it to avast! and what to do to exclude them until the problem is corrected.

The other errors relate to windows error 0000005=access is denied, so it is likely that these files are protected in some way by spysweeper, so nothing to worry about.

Thanks for your reply.
It must be a spysweeper problem, the quick system scan starts normally, once scanning the files, the sandglass appears and the scan becomes very slow, after 15 minutes only 600 files are scanned.
Regards.

Is this when you are doing an on-demand scan with spysweeper ?

If so I always pause the Standard Shield provider before running another security scan.

The post link that I gave doesn’t indicate it is a problem with spysweeper.

The Quick Scan is designed for quickly scanning individual files, or small batches of files. It is also the most thorough of the scanners, scanning all files to the greatest degree, so it isn’t designed to be used for bulk scanning.

What is it that you are trying to do with the Quick Scan ?

To run an avast on-demand scan, right click the ‘a’ icon in the system tray, select Start avast! Antivirus. There will be a short memory scan and the Simple User Interface will display. Here you can select either all local disks, Folder Selection or Removable media, you can also set the sensitivity of the scan and if archives are to be scanned. See the avast Help file, Simple User Interface for more detailed information.

Hi,
I think my problem is solved by pausing the standard shield.
Thank you so much !

No problem, glad I could help.

I assume a positive answer to my question, “Is this when you are doing an on-demand scan with spysweeper ?”

At least I hope it is because you are running an on-demand scan with spysweeper as pausing the standard shield under other circumstances could leave you vulnerable, and don’t forget to enable it again after the scan.

Welcome to the forums.
