i see that some people use spywareguard,is there a recent version and new signatures becxause when i checked awhile back it was outdated?
I use SpywareGuard and there is no need of a recent
version or for new signatures . The forums at
www.wilderssecurity.com have the best info on this
topic, in the Javacoolsoftware “section” .
No there isn’t. SpywareGuard is claimed to use heuristic definitions and therefore be less in need of regular updates, but I think MS AntiSpyware, Webroot or Spyware Doctor etc., with their regular updates and real time protection against spyware installation would be a better safeguard.
Even using Heuristic detections there is a need for regular updates (for the heuristic algorithms and program, etc.), I had it installed for as long as I had XP installed and for more than a year of checking for updates there were none. To me this shows a lack of development, although the web site says this is work in development. I’m unsure of what version I had prior to removing it (version 2.2 on the site), but it at no time suggested when checking for updates that there was a program update available.
The web site also suggests its sister program SpywareBlaster for those concerned with compatibility.
SpywareGuard is a work-in-progress. We cannot guarantee that it will not conflict with other security software on your machine. However we do strive to fix any compatibility problems that may arise. If you are worried about potential compatibility issues with SpywareGuard, we recommend you download SpywareBlaster instead.
No doubt about it.
I think there is no development at all… Spyware are into one of the most active malware fields… Heuristics of one year ago? Wow, I feel like a fool ;D

SpywareBlaster Readme v3.4: SpywareBlaster doesn't scan for and clean spyware - it prevents it from ever being installed.
