My question is did I miss a step on how to create a startup disc?

Recently the doom worm made it so computer couldn’t come up correctly and I helped a few others with different software. Most had a startup disk to set you in a position to recover from a problem.

Does avast?

There’s no startup disk in avast. The VRDB is trying somewaht similar problem in a different way (see the help files)
