Well, after installing PCtools firewall a month ago, I haven’t been able to turn it on. Due to the reason that it likes to block certain parts of Steam.
(For all who don’t know what steam is, What is is, is essentially putting a game-manager, instant-messenger, and online-shopping for PC games into one application made by Valve, the creators of Half-Life 1 and 2)
What it’s doing is when I try to look at the built-in server list for my games, it only shows nineteen servers. When I turn off the firewall, however, it shows the number of 1300-1400. I know for a fact this is a legit program, and that it does NOT contain viruses.
So, my question being… How can I fix this so I can enable PCtools firewall without this happening?
I understand what you mean but you should have said “protection”, because Avast (I suppose you run V4) is not a firewall, and you need one, so do yourself a favor, if not done already, turn at least Windows Firewall on until you can get your issue with PCtools/Steam fixed…Anyway, what did you see in application rules in PCtools FW concerning Steam? I think there’s a game mode in PCtools, you should switch it on before launching any game in Steam, by either allowing everything (then the FW will learn Steam rules) or just turning the FW off while you play. Unfortunately I don’t have PCtools and Steam installed atm, I could have tested this a week ago or so…it’s worth insisting on finding out what went wrong because this FW (PCtools) is really good, I might even consider installing it back.
